Great Expectations By Charles Dickens - 1163 Words

I have four groups of adults. My parents, my grandparents-particularly my grandma, my teachers, and the rest. Within each group there are select individuals who I hope to impress or make proud. In the future I want to make someone in one of the group s proud to know me. Each action or decision I make is influenced by these people. Matters of seriousness, as well little trifles are constantly being affected by the looming authority of â€Å"my elders†. Will my grandma think these shorts are too short? In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, all the characters are influenced by the surrounding people. Their decisions and actions can be traced back to interactions between others. Like the characters, my choices can be followed back to who I†¦show more content†¦In seventh grade I attended a summer camp, I hope to go back, but to do so, I have to focus on school. Like Magwitch, I am letting my past control me. I am focusing on an event which happened years ago, and le tting it direct my future. There are people who are dear to all of us. For Pip it’s Joe; for Estella, Miss. Havisham; for me, my parents. Generally these individuals helped raised us. We want to make them proud, show them that their life was not completely wasted on us. My parents and I often joke about me paying for their retirement. Though underneath the sarcasm and laughter, I do want to be able to pay for them to retire early. It motivates and pains me. Knowing I have the ability to help others, particularly the people who raised me, as well as having the ability to never see them again. Thinking about a career for the future also means thinking about how it will affect my parents. I do not want to be working a monotonous job at minimum wage, I want to support my family and love what I do. My parents want me to be happy, but everything they do is for me, and I hope to be able to pay them back. Pip has a similar experience with Joe, but does not realize it till later in the novel. Ever since he met E stella, he wanted to become a gentleman and leave his old life behind. As his life starts to become better, and his dreams come true, he wants to pay Joe back, yet he keeps avoiding him. At the end of the novel, when all of Pip is all alone, Joe comes back. He cares
